About

The UC Santa Cruz Retiree & Emeriti Center recognizes the importance of retired staff and faculty as lifelong members of the UC Santa Cruz community. The Center’s primary goal is to be a resource for all retirees while keeping them engaged with the university. Joining either the Retiree Association or the Emeriti Association is a great way to stay connected with colleagues!
Retirees Association
Founded in 1988, the Retirees Association is open to all current and retired faculty and staff. The Association aims to support a continuing affiliation with the University, promote and provide opportunities for interaction among retirees, and serve the University as advocates, ambassadors, and volunteers.
The Retirees Association also raises funds for two scholarships, the Bruce Lane Memorial Scholarship and the Silver Slug Scholarship.
The Council of University of California Retiree Associations (CUCRA) is a consortium of the Retiree Associations of nine University of California campuses CUCRA’s goal is to provide a single organization that could speak for the many University and laboratory retirees on issues that could affect retiree benefits and privileges.
Emeriti Association
Founded in 1979, the Emeriti Association aims to foster an atmosphere of collegiality among Emeriti by providing socially and intellectually stimulating programs. Currently, the Emeriti Association promotes better understanding of the University’s research, teaching, and service mission through community-wide lectures, the Panunzio and Dickson awards, a quarterly newsletter, and public videos of its programs and lectures, documenting the value of Emeriti research, scholarly activities, and service performed in retirement.
The Emeriti Association also advocates for Emeriti rights, welfare, status, and benefits, coordinating with the Council of University of California Emeriti Associations (CUCEA), the Chancellor, the UC Santa Cruz Academic Senate Committee on Emeriti Relations, and the Retiree and Emeriti Center.
Committee on Emeriti Relations
The Committee on Emeriti Relations (CER) is an Academic Senate committee that makes known to the Santa Cruz Division and to the UC Santa Cruz Administration the interests and needs of emeriti and makes appropriate recommendations regarding ways to facilitate emeriti contributions to the University.
Volunteering for senate service an opportunity to affect decisions that shape the campus and the larger UC system, research opportunities like the Edward A. Dickson Emeriti Professorship, retirement and benefit packages, and retirement readiness.
